Sunflowers Galore

Our designers have been busy creating some striking new designs.  It’s always so nice to see the sunflowers come along, and the fabulous colors of Fall won’t be far behind. Here is a sampling, but you can take a look at all of our pretty sunflowers here.

Keeping the Petals and People Cool

As always, there is something going on at Zeidler’s on Fulton Avenue.  Air Conditioning was one of those things recently.  It’s a real necessity to keep those flowers fresh and cool for your delivery!  The pictures are pretty interesting and the Zeidler’s staff is quite happy.  “Hats off ” to all those who installed it and everyone else who works outdoors during this crazy hot summer!

Sweet Potato Vine Gone Wild!

From year to year, we like to try new and different things in the landscaping in front of the Zeidler’s Fulton Avenue Store.  I would say this one is a success, wouldn’t you?  This “Sweet Potato Vine” is from the Convolvulaceae family, the Ipomoea genus, and batatas species.  Now if you understand all that, you are way ahead of the gardening game!  You will find these plants for sale in the Spring in Zeidler’s Plant Center.  Anyway, it’s healthy, hardy, gorgeous green, and making every effort to take over the sidewalk.

Spring Fever? Geraniums are growing!

If you love to play in the dirt, you are most likely suffering from a bit of Spring fever today.  So, we wanted you to know we’ve been busy here at Zeidler’s.  We are growing those fabulous Tango geraniums that our customers love.  Lots of them!  Great colors…can’t wait, can you?

Daffodils Have Arrived!

The fine folks at the American Cancer Society and Zeidler’s Flowers have been busy wrapping and delivering Daffodils.  Shelley Kirk, news anchor at WEHT-TV, is also delivering today at Oncology Hematology Associates, providing a bit of sunshine to cancer patients there.

Bunches of 10 sell for $10, a bunch of 10 with a vase is $15…and every penny goes to the American Cancer Society.  There are a few bunches available for purchase at Zeidler’s store on North Fulton if you are interested.  They make a super gift and support a terrific cause.  We tease that they resemble asparagus when they arrive….but they soon open into beautiful, bright yellow blossoms.  Thanks to all the corporate sponsors, site coordinators, and volunteers who make this annual event a success!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all! You need a thoughtful gift or green flower today, we’ve got you covered, call, stop in, order online.    Ever wonder about Leprechauns?  I know someone who looked for them under leaves in their back yard…though I’ve never heard of anyone actually finding one, have you?

Here’s something about Leprechauns that you may (or may not) find interesting.

Kinda Cute!

The original Irish name for these figures of folklore is “lobaircin,” meaning “small-bodied fellow.”

Belief in leprechauns probably stems from Celtic belief in fairies, tiny men and women who could use their magical powers to serve good or evil. In Celtic folktales, leprechauns were cranky souls, responsible for mending the shoes of the other fairies. Though only minor figures in Celtic folklore, leprechauns were known for their trickery, which they often used to protect their much-fabled treasure.

Leprechauns had nothing to do with St. Patrick or the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, a Catholic holy day. In 1959, Walt Disney released a film called Darby O’Gill & the Little People, which introduced America to a very different sort of leprechaun than the cantankerous little man of Irish folklore. This cheerful, friendly leprechaun is a purely American invention, but has quickly evolved into an easily recognizable symbol of both St. Patrick’s Day and Ireland in general.

March Rose Winner

Congratulations to William H. of Evansville…who was just chosen as our monthly rose winner for March.  One dozen roses arranged in a vase…for pickup or delivery.  Wonder who will be the lucky recipient?  If you want to be entered in April’s drawing, click here.
